If there is one thing I have learned from working on Machine Learning problems in the People/HR space, it is this: define and structure your problem up front! This principle is, of course, not a new one to me – they teach it to you on your very first day working as a McKinsey consultant – but in this case it’s important to call it out and emphasize it, because so many data scientists nowadays have a tendency to leap straight in without enough problem definition and structuring.
